Feeling about the Project
(From a Service Users Point of View)

Hi,

I just wanted to let you all know what the YWHP is like, from a Service Users point of view.

One day I found myself travelling to the YWHP with my Social Worker, for a meeting about maybe moving in.  I was very nervous and it was all a little over-whelming at first (everything was real), but once you get inside and sit down all the staff are very welcoming and sensitive to issues being spoken about, so it becomes easier throughout.

I did move into the Core House 2 weeks later, I’ll be honest, I hated it, I didn’t know anyone, the other three young women were good friends and I felt left out.  I thought the staff didn’t care – they were in it for the money, and to make themselves feel good!  But actually as time went by I made up really good relationships with both the young women and staff members.  I joined in with everything and found things like:

  • Key Work

  • House Meetings

  • Drop-Ins

  • Nomad

  • Activities

  • General chats with lots of Tea and smoking – All really helpful.

Suddenly I’d been in the Core House for 2 years and was moving into one of the Project Flats, AHHHHH!

Here we go again, I didn’t want to leave, couldn’t live on my own, I was so used to people just being there, and didn’t know if I’d cope on my own.  Again the staff were very supportive and I moved.  I absolutely hated it, I felt like I’d gone backwards, the staff didn’t care, forgotten about me, and someone had taken my place.  I still had/have Key Work weekly and could join in activities etc. but, just not the same.

Anyway I got over being alone, and realised I still had all the support I had before and I got on with things.

Now I’m happy in my flat, still find it hard occasionally but that’s to be expected really.

The YWHP and staff have helped me to move on and move forward, so much, I find it hard to believe myself sometimes, I can’t thank them enough.

The Project is a fantastic place and I guarantee if you come along you’ll also say the same.

Good Luck!!
